Installing
Ureal Live Server and Media Server
First you need to go to unreal's website and download the installers for the live server ,media server and streaming mediaplayer client
http://www.umediaserver.net/download.html

Now to set up Live Server to your preferences

Add a new media source

Select the input device , USB cam or TV capture card

Select the frame size and rate , keeping in mind bandwidth
constraints when the media server outputs to the viewer

Select an audio input if you wish to have audio also

Select an encoding profile for your content

Give the source a name

Decide if you wish to have the source recorded , keeping in
mind the harddrive space required if you do

Now the source is configured and running.

Select the Media
Server properties

Select Internal
Authentication if you are running the Media Server on the same machine as the Live
Source

Add User , and
choose a username ,password and some user info . This is the username and
password you will use with the viewer when you access the media server.
Remembering you might wish to access the media server from across the internet
a strong password is recommended , though I access my network from outside
using a Hamachi network which utilises an encrypted tunnelling protocol so my
username and password are really only there to limit connections from machines
already inside my network. I will discuss Hamachi at the end of this tutorial
as it is quite easy to set up , free , and does not require any port forwarding
to be setup at your modem/router.

Now we need to add
a live broadcast for the media server to encode/stream

Give the live
source a name/alias and description , and as the live server and the media
server are on the same computer the IP address can be set to localhost or
127.0.0.1 , and set the Authentication to internal.

Media Server
should end up similar to the screenshot below.

You can close both
the live and media server configurators and the servers will continue to run.
They are installed as a service which means they will both startup when the
computer is started.

To view your live
streams you need to install and run the unreal streaming media viewer on a
windows pc or a WM5 pocketpc/smartphone. I have not tested the WM5 version on
my axim x50v as I am running WM2003se and it does not work on that OS yet. A
webpage hosting the activeX control can also be configured to view the
streaming media , but this tutorial will not be covering setting up of this ,
please refer to the tutorials at umediaserver.net if you wish to do this.
From http://www.umediaserver.net/download.html
download and install Streaming Media Player. Once you have it installed , run
the player.

Select play remote
live source

If you have an
Hamachi network established across the internet , enter the Hamachi IP of the
machine running the Media Server

or if you are on a
local LAN , enter the IP address of the machine running the Media Server

Or if you have Forwarded
port 5119 at your modem/router to the Machine running the Media Server , enter
the dynamic address.

you will know it
has succeeded when the Authentication box pops up

enter your
username and password for Media Server

and when you hit
ok , you should be seeing a live stream from your webcam / TV capture card

It can be
advisable to set it all up locally so you can set the permissions on your
firewalls as they arise during configuration. If you wish to use an Hamachi secure
network to connect across the internet , please go to http://www.hamachi.cc and download an install
the client on each machine you wish to be part of the secure network. Here is a
good tutorial to setup Hamachi - http://www.itsatechworld.com/2006/01/17/hamachi-vpn-solution/
- and/or visit the forums at http://forums.hamachi.cc/
.
I will continue to
update this as I get feedback.
